A hacker hacked the computer of an accountant at a Sumy hospital and transferred UAH 5 million to the account of a familiar businessman

In Sumy region, cyber police exposed two men who stole funds from the accounts of a Sumy medical institution.

According to the investigation, one of the suspects, a 45-year-old resident of Lutsk, hacked the accountant's computer using a remote access program. Thanks to this, he was able to interfere in the institution's financial transactions, the cyber police and the Sumy Regional Prosecutor's Office report .

A 40-year-old businessman was also involved in the fraudulent scheme. It was to his limited liability company account that the stolen funds — UAH 4.98 million — were transferred. The businessman was aware of their origin.

As part of the pre-trial investigation, police conducted 5 searches at the residences of the suspects. During the investigation, computer equipment, mobile phones, data carriers, bank cards, cash, and other physical evidence relevant to the criminal proceedings were seized.

The actions of both suspects were qualified as theft committed under martial law, on a particularly large scale, by prior conspiracy by a group of persons (Part 5, Article 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

At the same time, the hacker will also be responsible for unauthorized interference in the operation of information systems and the creation of malicious software for the purpose of illegal use.

At the request of the investigator and prosecutor, the court decided to impose a preventive measure on the entrepreneur in the form of detention with the possibility of release on bail of UAH 2.330 million. Regarding his accomplice, the issue is still being resolved.
