Google has announced the launch of a native Gemini app for Mac, bringing the company into line with competitors like OpenAI and Anthropic, which have had their own Mac apps for quite some time.
Google has announced the launch of a native Gemini app for Mac, bringing the company into line with competitors like OpenAI and Anthropic, which have had their own Mac apps for quite some time.
“Now you can call up Gemini from anywhere on your Mac with a quick keyboard shortcut (Option + Space) to get instant help without switching tabs,” the company explained on its blog. “Whether you’re writing a draft of a market report and want to check the date, or you’re budgeting in a spreadsheet and need a formula, you can get an answer and get back to work right away.”
Using the new app, a user can give Gemini access to anything on their screen to get help with what they're currently viewing, including local files.
For example, if you see a complex diagram, you can ask, “What are the three main conclusions you can draw from this?” and get a quick summary.
The app also supports the ability to create images using Nano Banana and videos using Veo.
The macOS app is available to all Gemini users with macOS versions 15 and above worldwide starting April 15. It can be downloaded at gemini.google/mac .
