TVPort is an open-source project based on the nxnative toolkit that decompiles and recompiles Switch games for Apple’s console using a Mac. The developer used the Claude AI model to optimize and fix bugs, Engadget writes .
"Most games work the same on Switch, but some load textures into memory differently. These need to be diagnosed and fixed so the game runs properly," explained FloatingFalafel, adding that he used the Claude Opus 5.5 model to work on the project.
According to the author, TVPort also supports saving to iCloud or Mac and allows you to choose a target frame rate between 30 and 60 fps.
Super Mario Odyssey: Runs at a stable 60 fps, although there are occasional minor frame stuttering and audio issues near waterfalls.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons: runs at 30 fps without noticeable glitches.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom: This game is currently experiencing significant performance issues. During testing, the Apple TV 4K is experiencing severe overheating and frequency dropouts. According to the developer, Tears of the Kingdom may never fully run on the 3rd generation Apple TV 4K due to its high requirements.
The TVPort repository does not contain any game files — users must provide their own readable dump files from legally purchased cartridges.
Launching games via AI has become a hot topic in the IT community. Recently, the creators of the popular resource decomp.dev announced the closure of the site, stating that the use of AI by unscrupulous developers "destroyed the spirit of the decompilation community." Amidst these disputes, the company Anthropic has already made changes to Claude Code, prohibiting the tool from playing existing games.
Despite ethical discussions, the TVPort project once again reminded us of the hidden potential of the Apple TV 4K as a gaming device capable of much more than just broadcasting TV series or sporting events.
