According to Sifted, the funds were raised as part of a Series C financing led by British venture capital fund Balderton Capital. Hensoldt, Airbus Defense and Space, Bullhound Capital, HV Capital, Project A, DTCP, Omnes Capital, Porsche SE, Notion, as well as entrepreneur Peter Thiel also joined the investment.
It is noted that the funds raised will be used for research and development of unmanned AI systems, expansion of production, and increased presence in Europe, America, and the Asia-Pacific region.
Quantum Systems builds dual-purpose reconnaissance drones. Unlike companies that are directly involved in defense development, dual-purpose startups have both military and commercial applications. In Quantum Systems’ case, these commercial applications include agriculture, mining, and infrastructure.
The startup has won a number of government contracts in the US, Colombia, Australia, Germany, Spain and Ukraine. Quantum Systems co-founder Florian Seibel said that the startup will generate €115 million in revenue in 2024. The company claims that annual revenue growth has exceeded 100% for several years in a row.
In March, Quantum Systems announced the acquisition of German UAV developer AirRobot, and recently entered the UK market by acquiring Nordic Unmanned UK, a British company engaged in the development of unmanned aerial vehicles and the provision of services.
The head of the Ministry of Digital Affairs, Mikhail Fedorov, noted that the total amount of investment in Quantum Systems is 310 million euros, and thanks to this, the startup became a unicorn — its capitalization exceeded $1 billion. He also recalled that the startup is a resident of «Diya.City».
«Quantum Systems is also actively developing in Ukraine. Last year they launched the production of drones here. And their drones have been helping us in the war since May 2022. Since 2023, the company has been a resident of „Diya.City“. Residency in space allows foreign companies to localize in Ukraine and creates opportunities for building production here and establishing stable work», — Fedorov wrote.
