Kyiv has a relatedness density of 48,9%. This means that almost half of the technologies developed in the city are potentially related to artificial intelligence, according to the study «Analysis of the Application of Artificial Intelligence in Priority Sectors and Competitiveness of Ukraine», conducted by the Center for European Policy Studies (CEPS) in 2024.

Kyiv is located next to regions such as Vienna (AT13, 52,08%) and Madrid (ES30, 49,07%), and is ahead of, for example, Amsterdam (NL32, 47,78%) and Brussels (BE10, 47,56%).

However, the situation with AI inventions in the capital of Ukraine is not the best. According to the OECD RegPat database (2017–2022): Germany has 3,028 registered patents, the UK has 1,384, France has 1,122, while Ukraine has only 9.

The authors of the study explain this difference by the high cost of patenting, complex administrative procedures, and less integration of Ukraine into the EU market.

Patents are usually registered by large companies with R&D infrastructure, while the Ukrainian AI ecosystem is more dynamic in startups, publications, and applied developments (Reface, Respeecher, Zibra AI, Osavul, etc.).
