«In short, since November 8, traffic has increased by more than 10% across the entire network. In some regions, it is even more: for example, in Poltava +32%, in Chernivtsi +25% — and these are very large figures. In terms of total volume, we have a historical maximum — almost 10 petabytes per day. And this is a lot. According to various sources, this is twice as much as, for example, META (Facebook),» he explained in a post on Facebook.
According to him, the largest increase occurs when subscribers switch from fixed home Internet to mobile during power outages.
«During this period, we recorded an increase in the number of active LTE users across the entire network by 12-15%. This means that the load on base stations is increasing, batteries are draining faster — and as a result, the quality of mobile communication and data transfer speed are deteriorating,» said the president of the mobile operator.
In this context, he reminded users of the importance of providing backup power to routers: using a power bank, UPS, or charging station.
As dev.ua wrote, the president of Kyivstar, Oleksandr Komarov, shared that during recent blackouts, the mobile operator became the object of inspection by regulatory authorities.
Meanwhile, due to the significant intensification of Russian shelling of energy infrastructure, the state leadership believes that the current readiness of networks to operate for 8–10 hours without power supply may not be enough. Therefore, new requirements for mobile operators were adopted during one of the last meetings of the State Central Committee in late October.
In addition, a coordination headquarters is being launched in Ukraine to ensure the smooth operation of communication networks.
