According to Kytsmey, the classic academic model, where teachers and scientists exist separately from the market, is no longer sufficient for modern IT business.
«Universities should employ practitioners who have project management skills: they know how to plan work, meet deadlines, be responsible for results, and build trust,» he said during the forum «Research project manager: from grant to impact» at Lviv Polytechnic.
According to the SoftServe co-founder, another problem of Ukrainian education is a weak understanding of how the IT business itself works. «Educational institutions should have specialists who understand the IT business well and preferably have practical experience in it,» explained Kitsmey.
He also emphasized that modern technological projects have long become global, so universities need teachers and researchers with international experience. «Business needs globally oriented experts with international experience,» Kitsmey said. He also criticized the university evaluation system, which is often reduced to the number of individual scientific publications.
According to Kytsmey, Ukrainian science should focus not only on individual authors, but primarily on strong scientific schools and teams capable of working internationally, attracting grants, and creating applied solutions for the market. «Ideas give birth to individuals, but great results are created by teams,» the SoftServe co-founder concluded.
