"Actual figures turned out to be lower than our expectations." The developers of the Ukrainian game Level Zero: Extraction decided to close the project

Ukrainian studio DogHowl Games will no longer release updates for its multiplayer PvPvE shooter Level Zero: Extraction, but will not shut down the servers for now. The game was updated to version 1.0 in late January and left Steam Early Access, but further support was canceled due to «financial unfeasibility».

Developed on Unreal Engine 5, Level Zero: Extraction combines the tension of asymmetrical survival horror with the intense gunplay of extraction shooters. The gameplay is centered around dangerous raids that can be taken on solo or with friends.

The game has received mixed reviews from players — on Steam, Level Zero: Extraction has 57% positive reviews out of over 2,000, and reviews over the past 30 days are mostly negative.

«Level Zero: Extraction was an ambitious debut project for Doghowl. We wanted to create a game that stood out from the rest, combining the genres of escape shooter and asymmetric horror. Although, in the end, we realized that combining these two genres is not easy, we are grateful for the opportunity to try to gain so much invaluable experience», — said the project’s community manager.

He noted that Level Zero: Extraction was able to break into the Top 100 most anticipated games on Steam, and during the open beta test, the project’s demo became the second most popular among players during the Steam «News Festival».

«Unfortunately, the actual performance of LZ:E has fallen short of our expectations. Our relatively small team can no longer support the game due to financial infeasibility. Therefore, we have made the difficult, but necessary, decision to gradually reduce support», — the developers said.

The game will not receive previously scheduled updates, but will still be available to everyone who purchased it — the servers will continue to function for some time.

Doghowl Studio will continue its work and is already planning to develop a new multiplayer game, this time focusing on co-op. «We really hope that the invaluable experience gained through Level Zero: Extraction will help our young studio in its future work», — the project’s community manager noted.
