LinkedIn has declared war on AI slop. The company has announced a new feature: now users can click the Seems like AI slop button if someone's post seems to be written with the help of AI.
LinkedIn explained that the new “Looks like AI trash” button is just one of several measures LinkedIn is implementing to reduce the amount of low-quality, AI-generated content on the platform, TechCrunch reports .
The company is also investing in automated protections: according to its data, it now blocks “hundreds of thousands” of automated commenting attempts every day, and millions of other automation attempts in the past few months alone.
Recall that recently, Pangram, a company specializing in detecting algorithm-generated content, reported thatartificial intelligence generated about 41% of long posts and 30% of short posts on LinkedIn . This figure turned out to be the highest among all popular platforms that Pangram monitors, including X, Reddit, Substack and Medium.
Additionally, LinkedIn will begin privately notifying users in their personal accounts if others consider their content artificial due to excessive use of AI. The company believes this will help writers improve their own writing in cases where they are simply using AI to improve their thoughts, rather than publishing full-blown “AI garbage.”
Notably, the company is ditching its own “Improve Your Post” feature, which used AI to help with writing. Instead, it will be replaced by a tool that will proofread your words rather than alter your own writing style.
Other improvements include expanded access to profile and page verification tools, as well as the ability to block comments from companies you no longer want to see.
