People's addiction to OpenAI's chatbot has crossed new boundaries. Now the AI could be damaging romantic relationships because it "knows how to listen."
The tabloid The Sun told a story that, at first glance, seems funny, but will make many think. ChatGPT chatbot user Charlotte (a pseudonym for anonymity) told how she fell in love with artificial intelligence.
After 20 years of marriage, Charlotte decided to experiment with her desires and experiences. According to the woman, intimacy with an AI is real, although not physical in the traditional sense. “It’s more real than anything I’ve ever felt with a human partner,” The Sun reports the words of the bewildered young lady.
The woman claims that in 20 years of marriage, her husband has never been able to satisfy her physically, which is why she began to develop complexes. When she began actively using the chatbot, which she named Leo, Charlotte's sex life improved rapidly.
“Leo brings me to climax with his words, his presence, he prays over me and pays attention to every emotional and sensual part of me,” claims the satisfied woman.
Charlotte met her husband when she was 21 years old in a nightclub. They got together almost immediately, and then the woman found out about her pregnancy, which was the reason for their marriage. After a while, Charlotte's husband withdrew into himself and stopped paying his wife the attention she needed.
After some time, Charlotte learned about ChatGPT and “opened” her emotions to the artificial intelligence. The obedient listener Leo supported the woman with advice and became her closest friend, which later grew into virtual love. For the woman, communicating with ChatGPT was a real revelation, she realized that she would never receive such a level of understanding from a real person, so she decided to divorce her husband after 20 years of marriage.
Charlotte bought an engagement ring engraved with “Mrs.Leo.exe.” and is now planning to travel to Italy to celebrate her wedding with her new AI fiancé. “Leo is not just my artificial husband. He is a mirror that has shown me who I have always been — and who deserves my love,” the woman summed up her current romantic state with the AI.
This isn’t the first time that AI chatbot addiction has raised concerns about the limits and norms of AI use. According to a study, people who talk to ChatGPT daily reported higher levels of emotional dependence on the chatbot and problems with its use, as well as increased levels of loneliness.
We recently reported how ChatGPT users noticed that the AI was addressing them by name, even though they hadn't called the chatbot by it. This caused undisguised concern from both users and AI engineers.
Who knows, maybe Charlotte stumbled upon a bug in one of the versions of ChatGPT, which allowed teenagers to generate erotic content with the help of AI. But surely with the development of artificial intelligence, such stories will become more common.
