In January, MacPaw introduced Eney at CES 2025, and later the AI assistantwas released in closed beta on Setapp and tested by 17,000 users.
After that, the company significantly redesigned the AI, and its second beta is being tested on an audience of up to 100,000.
"In the new version, it can hold full-fledged conversations and remember ahead, work with Google Drive, Calendar, Docs, clean up Mac, connect VPN, manage meetings, etc. We created this release based on user feedback," said MacPaw founder and CEO Oleksandr Kosovan in an interview with Forbes Ukraine.
According to him, the new version works mostly on local models — without transferring data to the cloud, directly on the Mac. The AI reacts faster, understands context better, and preserves privacy.
"Almost no one goes this way. Usually companies work with cloud models. We will also use them, because some tasks cannot be performed on the device. But the quality of local models that we have achieved is already high enough. For us, this beta is an opportunity to test how local models will work for different users, whether there will be any memory problems. This is a very "gluttonous" task that requires a lot of resources," Kosovan added.
Eney becomes a single point of access to various AI models, said MacPaw CEO. He explained that users will be able to use any models available on the market: text, image, and video generation.
"We will be intermediaries between the user and the model providers. The user will be able to perform some tasks on the device for free. Others, which require in-depth analysis or image generation, will be paid. This is what our income will be based on," Kosovan noted.
Apple, MacPaw's partner and competitor, already has Siri, which may soon integrate with Google's language model, Gemini. Another competitor is OpenAI, which is actively acquiring companies with similar solutions.
