«Join xAI and help create a company dedicated exclusively to developing software based on artificial intelligence, called Macrohard. The name sounds funny, but the project is quite real!», wrote Elon Musk on X (Twitter).
He added that companies like Microsoft do not manufacture physical hardware themselves, so their work can be completely simulated using artificial intelligence.
Windows Central notes that this is not entirely true — while Microsoft is best known for its software development, such as Windows and Microsoft 365 Office, it also develops hardware, including computers, game consoles, and mobile devices. However, many of the company’s devices, software, and services have been prematurely shut down, drawing criticism from experts.
«Microsoft as an organization no longer has any real direction, convictions, and, most importantly, the will to actually compete. Microsoft is the pinnacle of late capitalism, where failure is rewarded and the ability to move capital quickly obviates the need to meet the needs of consumers and society at large,» wrote Windows Central executive editor Jez Corden.
Elon Musk has not revealed any information about his new company, but Brent Mayo, an engineer who works at xAI, reposted Musk’s post. And documents from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office also show that xAI filed for a trademark for «macrohard» on August 1.
Musk previously used the launch of GPT-5 to once again criticize the partnership between Microsoft and OpenAI, as well as to brag about his Grok 4 AI.
