He made this statement to the press before a two-day summit in Paris dedicated to artificial intelligence, RFI reports .
«For France, this is the equivalent of the United States announcing the Stargate,» the French leader noted.
He added that we are talking about «investments that will be made by the United Arab Emirates», «large American and Canadian investment funds», as well as French companies, in particular telecommunications operators Illiad and Orange, and the Thales group.
Emmanuel Macron called for «global regulation» of the AI sector, because «we cannot regulate it in just one area, because it is an international business.»
He also called for «partnerships between private and public players to shape the right patterns of behavior.»
Recall that on Sunday, on the eve of the opening of the summit, France announced that it was joining forces with eight countries, associations and companies to launch an initiative on AI «for the benefit of society», sponsored by 11 technology leaders.
The partnership, called Current AI, is backed by tech leaders like Arthur Mensch (Mistral AI) and Fiji Simo (Instacart), and has an initial investment of $400 million. In addition, it was announced that French startup Mistral will build its first AI data center in France. On Saturday, Canadian fund Brookfield announced that it would invest 20 billion euros in data centers in France.
