It is noted that the victim, Edimar Martins, came across an account under the name Jessica Oliveira on social networks back in 2020, and throughout the entire communication, he did not suspect that he was in contact with artificial intelligence.
Last week, a resident of the northeastern state of Maranhão decided it was time for a real meeting. He sold all his possessions to pay for a bus ride to Belo Horizonte.
"I sold all my things, got rid of everything. It's so depressing," the man shared with reporters.
Arriving in the city on October 11, Martins was unable to find his “girlfriend.” When he contacted a local radio station, he was told that it was a fake and that such a woman did not exist. Left with no money, the man was forced to contact the local city hall, where social workers helped him return home.
The TikTok account @JessicaFazendeira, which shared videos of the generated woman, has over 300,000 followers. In the now-deleted videos, the AI character said she was looking for a man to move to her farm, promising to fully support him financially.
Later, a video appeared on the page, where the channel's authors acknowledged the use of technology and denied the fact of direct communication with Martins.
"I came here to state the obvious: I was created by artificial intelligence. I have never communicated with any person from this profile. The goal was to get reach for sales," the virtual girl stated.
