IT-specialist lost his 6-figure job and started the "School of Love." Now he's a digital nomad who helps people find their soulmates
Paul Travis has a bachelor's degree in mathematics and computer science, and is a graduate of Harvard's Executive Program in Brand Management. In September 2020, he was laid off as a Program Manager at fintech company Avalara. Instead of looking for a new job, he opened the "School of Love" and became a sex educator. Now 59, he travels in his van and helps people over 40 arrange their personal lives.

In September 2020, he was laid off as a Program Manager at fintech company Avalara. Instead of looking for a new job, he opened the "School of Love" and became a sex educator. Now 59, he travels in his van and helps people over 40 arrange their personal lives.
After losing his job with a monthly salary of $10,000, Paul Travis radically changed his life.
"I explored a few ideas that were in the back of my mind and decided to focus on middle-aged dating, which I was extremely comfortable with after divorcing after 19 years of marriage," Paul Travis told Business Insider.
It all started in February 2021 with an online program for single people over 40. He found his first clients through Facebook ads. In 2023, he became a certified sex educator.
He hadn't yet reached his IT salary, so he cut costs by renting out his house.
“I got into my Sprinter van and started living the life of a digital nomad. In the last three years, I’ve traveled more than ever,” says Paul.
He works six to seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., but finds time every day to be outdoors, play with his dog, and take a break from the computer.
“I’m glad I can truly make a difference in people’s lives, not corporate software and marketing,” says the former Program Manager.
