Ukrainians have launched a “dopamine shopping service” called Mayzhe, an app where you can “almost buy” anything without spending a penny. How it works

A space has appeared in Ukraine that mimics the entire ritual of online shopping: cart, payment, delivery tracking, but without real goods and real money. Instead of a receipt, the user sees how much real money he has left — after he has just «bought» something without spending anything.

The wife of one of the founders, Hanna Obolonyk, spoke about the launch of the project at Threads, calling the application one of the first solutions for «dopamine shopping» without real costs.

How it works

The idea of mayzhe is to let people experience the feeling of shopping without its consequences: without spending money, without shame for an impulsive decision, and without lessons about financial discipline. The user goes through the usual path — chooses a product, adds it to the cart, «pays,» follows fake delivery tracking — and as a result receives not a purchase, but only confirmation that the money remains with him.

At the start, the catalog included clothing, but the authors have already expanded the range: electronics, sneakers, household appliances, collectible blind boxes, decor, stationery, as well as a whole menu of food and drinks. According to the developers, the project is still being finalized, but is already available for use.

Wish folder

A separate function of mayzhe is the wish folder. Have you seen something that makes you want to buy it right away? Instead of fighting the impulse or quitting social media, the user puts the item in the wish folder and pauses for a day. According to the authors, about half of the desires disappear on their own within a day — and what remains is no longer an impulse, but a conscious decision. The service also calculates how much money the user saved by postponing the purchase.

The authors describe mayzhe as a way to answer the question of how many times a person has «almost bought» something on impulse during a day.
