Two years after its release, Threads finally allows you to write directly to a user instead of using Instagram, but there is a caveat.
Meta says that initially users will only be able to send messages to those who are already following them or to mutual Instagram followers, although a future update is planned to introduce more customizable controls for incoming messages. The messaging feature will also only be available to Threads users who are 18 years or older.

The app also won't support group chats for now. Despite its simplicity, direct messages in Threads still feel limited, but it's still an improvement over Meta's previous stance, which insisted on using Instagram for Threads' incoming messages.
The company's management was initially adamantly against introducing private messaging in Threads. Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri argued that having two redundant message threads with each of your friends using the same username in two different apps seemed like an imperfect solution. But that stance has since faded as Threads' user base has grown to over 350 million.
“Over a third of Threads’ daily users follow primarily other accounts on Threads than on Instagram, suggesting that Threads is building its own unique user base,” Meta notes in a company blog post.
The development of the IT community in Threads is evidenced by the number of interesting stories shared by Ukrainian IT professionals. In particular, about an unscrupulous vibecoder who writes code entirely using AI, which negatively affects the project. Or recommendations from IT professionals on the specifics of organizing joint remote work with their partners, when both work from home.
