The company has created a hardware department, Reality Labs, whose team will develop humanoid robots based on artificial intelligence, will be headed by Mark Witten, former CEO of General Motors Cruise’s self-driving car division, Bloomberg writes, citing unnamed sources. This year, the team is planned to be staffed with about 100 engineers.
It is planned that humanoid robots can perform household chores, as well as on artificial intelligence, sensors and software that can be used by various companies that manufacture and sell robots.
«The core technologies we have already invested in and built across Reality Labs and AI complement the advancements needed for robotics,» Meta’s chief technology officer Andrew Bosworth wrote in an internal memo.
Speaking about the timing of the robots' appearance on the market, the company noted that humanoid robots will not be available for the next couple of years, but they are planned to become the main direction for Meta and the entire technology industry.
