Meta’s new AI app Muse is showing rapid growth, outpacing early mobile launch ChatGPT. In its first 12 days on the market, Meta’s development garnered more downloads and active users than OpenAI’s hit app in the same period after its debut.
This is according to estimates from analytics company Apptopia. Since the product release strategies differed (ChatGPT launched globally, but only on iOS, while Muse was released on iOS and Android, but only in the US and Canada), the analysts compared the figures exclusively for Apple devices in North America. In this segment, Muse received 1.8 million downloads compared to 1.3 million for ChatGPT in the first 12 days.
Muse has already racked up 2.8 million installs worldwide and is growing. According to Business Insider, the app has climbed from second to first place in the US App Store. The daily active audience (DAU) in the US has also been significantly higher: 642,000 users for Muse versus 231,000 for ChatGPT at the same point after launch.
The success of the new product largely relies on the developer's existing ecosystem. Meta has already worked out a strategy of massive cross-promotion during the launch of the social network Threads, which now has over 500 million users. Muse also has integrations with the company's largest platforms, including WhatsApp. According to analysts, more than 95% of the first users of the AI-based product also use Facebook, and 63% have Instagram accounts. Meta has not yet published official data on the pace of Muse adoption.
It was previously reported that Amazon had blocked Meta's Muse AI assistant , preventing it from making purchases on its e-commerce platform on behalf of users.
