«A few hours after the appearance of Russian drones with Starlink communication over Ukrainian cities, the Ministry of Defense team promptly contacted SpaceX and proposed ways to solve this problem,» Fedorov said .
He thanked SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell and Elon Musk for «quickly responding and starting to work on resolving the situation.» The minister added that Musk’s decision to provide Starlink terminals to Ukraine at the beginning of a full-scale invasion was «critically important.»
«Western technologies should continue to help the democratic world and protect the civilian population, and not be used for terror and the destruction of peaceful cities,» emphasized Mykhailo Fedorov.
Military expert in the field of drones and electronic warfare (EW) Sergey «Flash» Beskrestnov, who previously became an advisor to Fedorov, said that the Ministry of Defense immediately began looking for a solution to counter Starlink on Russian drones.
«The complexity of this process lies in the fact that Starlink cannot be suppressed by electronic warfare means and even their position in flight cannot be detected by electronic warfare equipment, so we initially realized that the main way to solve the issue is organizational,» noted «Flash.»
According to him, there are already hundreds of confirmed cases of Starlink UAV attacks not on military facilities, but on peaceful rear and frontline cities.
«In fact, this is terrorism using modern peaceful communication technologies. We are preparing a comprehensive solution, both quick and temporary, and more systemic and long-term,» the expert said.
