Ukrainian SkyLab UA has created a TROPA remote demining module for the Sirko-S1 robotic complex. What is its feature?

SkyLab UA, the company that developed the innovative ground-based robot assistant Sirko-S1, has created the TROPA remote demining module, which allows clearing a path up to 150 meters long. The company says that the drone has unique functionality available only to full-fledged demining machines.

The TROPA module is designed to remotely create safe 60 cm wide passages in mined areas by controlled detonation of demining cord. It allows the operator of the Sirko-S1 UGV to safely clear a path up to 150 meters long for infantry, sappers or equipment, minimizing the risk to personnel.

«There are no ground-based demining drones that work on this principle in Ukraine or the world, only full-fledged combat vehicles such as the UR77 or Miclic. Our invention allows us to be mobile, fast, minimize the direct presence of personnel in the area of ​​​​destruction by the enemy, while creating safe demined passages in a relatively cheap way, because the only consumable is ammunition, which is significantly cheaper than a minesweeper drone or similar installations», — SkyLab UA told dev.ua.

How Sirko-S1 works with the demining module

The operator brings the Sirko-S1 UGV into position for launch, taking into account wind direction and terrain to ensure proper deployment of the cord in the demining area. He then activates the missile launch via remote control.

The spiral ignites the rocket’s main engine. The rocket takes off from the launcher and begins to unwind the cord to a length of 150 meters.

The parachute system then deploys, stabilizing the rocket and cord, forming a straight line on the ground. 10 seconds after full deployment, the cord detonates and forms a path 60 cm wide and up to 5 cm deep, providing safe passage. The blast wave ensures that mines are detonated at a distance of up to 1 meter along the path.

SkyLab UA notes that such a system minimizes risks to the lives of sappers and military personnel and reduces costs for traditional demining methods.

Recall that earlier, the founder of SkyLab UA, Yevgeny Rvachev, spoke about how the developers of the Sirko-S1 ground robotic platform used a grant from the Brave1 support cluster to improve one of the nodes.
