According to the cyber police, a 22-year-old resident of Bukovina developed malicious software to automatically hack accounts. He then sold the stolen accounts and passwords on a hacker forum.
The victims of the defendant were mostly citizens of the United States and European countries.
Over time, the man became a trusted person for the administrators of this forum, receiving the status of an “arbitrator.” The figure was engaged in resolving disputes between forum users, in particular, regarding agreements related to the purchase and sale of services and digital goods.
In addition, the Bukovina resident administered a bot farm with over 5,000 profiles on various social networks, with the aim of "spurring" followers for the accounts of his clients. Usually, this is necessary for the latter to implement various shady schemes and deals.
The SBU also reported that the attacker conducted financial transactions through an online exchange: in particular, he withdrew funds from the sanctioned Russian service uoomoney to cryptocurrency wallets.
To disguise his illegal activities, the hacker used Telegram and a virtual phone number.
During a search of the attacker's apartment, law enforcement officers seized computer equipment containing evidence.
The Bukovynts was informed of the suspicion and placed under 24-hour house arrest. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. He faces up to 15 years in prison.
