"In 2025, 2021 will be only for AI specialists." Who are employers hunting for today, and which IT professions are no longer interesting to them - the conclusions of an experienced recruiter

The founder of the vpteam.io agency, Victoria Prydatko, published her own observations regarding the situation on the IT labor market and told who employers are currently most actively hiring.

The founder of the vpteam.io agency, Victoria Prydatko, published her own observations regarding the situation on the IT labor market and told who employers are currently most actively hiring.

«I’ll start with the good. Compared to 2024, 2025 is just flying by. Such a lull as there was in 2024 was observed only in the first half of the Covid year, but from the second half of 2020 everything started to fly again. From time to time I am asked when 2021 will return — all these crazy salaries and mass hiring. Well, in 2025 — 2021 will be only for AI specialists,» she noted in a blog on DOU. According to Victoria, it is AI specialists who are being sought, actively hired, and paid well.

However, the expert adds, this hype will subside relatively soon. «There is no doubt that AI expertise will be needed, because this is a new era, but the senseless hiring of anyone with ‘AI’ on their resume will subside and calm down by the beginning of 2026. This trend is already visible in the Valley,» she states.

According to Prydatko, currently the most active demand from employers is recorded for the following specialists:

  • GenAI / Data Engineer | AI-native;
  • AI Researcher;
  • AI Developer;
  • Embedded Engineers.

«They hire those who really understand what to do with this AI,» notes Victoria.

According to her, companies with chaotic processes are hiring AI directors, Heads of AI, and other «AI bosses» on a whim, thinking that AI will solve their problems with chaotic business processes. «But AI cannot do this by default. First, eliminate the chaos in the processes, and then automate with AI,» advises Victoria.

Also in the focus of employers, according to the expert, are cool product designers, and specifically product managers.

The biggest demand is for Python. «In Ukraine, they still hire ‘programming languages,’ while in the States, they have long been hiring Software Engineers who don’t care what they write in, because they understand that code is just a tool, and the programming language is chosen for the task,» she notes.

According to Prydatko’s findings, with rare exceptions, QA and front-end developers are not being sought. Mobile Developers (iOS, Android) are also being hired very little.
