Deftech has been developing the aviation industry for over 20 years. It started its journey with the ultralight manned K-10 Swift aircraft, and after 2014 it focused entirely on unmanned systems.
The company's flagship product is the Raybird system, which has logged over 350,000 hours of combat missions. This is the equivalent of almost 40 years of continuous flight for a single drone.
The exact number of employees and salary levels at Skyeton are not disclosed, but the company's website indicates that the team already has over 500 specialists. It has become not only larger, but also more complex due to the emergence of new technologies for drones that require constant integration, testing and support. To compete for strong personnel, the company offers decent compensation so that specialists do not have to choose between Ukrainian defense tech and work abroad. In addition, foreign engineers sometimes join the team, who seek to gain experience in intensive conditions of real combat use.
The core of Skyeton is engineers, as the company specializes in autonomous reconnaissance UAVs. At the same time, their share in the team is constantly changing depending on the needs of the front: in certain periods, engineers made up half of the staff, in others, the production, service, or operation departments grew more actively.
"IT specialists are also engineers, just of a different profile. But our work is very different from classic IT. It is difficult for us to work remotely, because we have to be close to the hardware. If you don't have a product in front of you on which you can immediately test the written code, the work can turn into an endless process. Therefore, an IT specialist must work with a specific product," said Skyeton CEO Roman Knyazhenko in an interview for DOU.
According to him, the company always has enough vacancies. They are currently looking for the following specialists:
Embedded and C++/C# developers;
Hardware and UAV Systems Engineers;
design engineers;
specialists in composite materials, 3D printing, UAV repair,
According to the head of Skyeton, finding people is also difficult because the company has to compete for personnel with the Ministry of Defense. However, this is not a classic business rivalry. Specialists with combat experience are equally needed today by military units or training centers, as well as manufacturers who have to test equipment, train crews and understand real scenarios for its use on the battlefield.
"But we cannot fill all vacancies only with people with many years of experience. That is why we train a lot ourselves. We hire people after university both for production and R&D. It takes longer, but it is valuable, because a person is part of our culture from the very beginning," Knyazhenko noted.
Currently, the company's R&D department is divided into two areas, the balance of resources between which is constantly changing depending on the challenges:
the first focuses on promising developments for the future;
the second is on the operational modernization of serial equipment to meet the current needs of the front.
The workload on these units depends on priorities, as the company needs to simultaneously provide instant updates to frontline units and quickly seek technological solutions to counter future threats.
