«The smartest companies will hire more developers. Because if you increase the productivity of one developer by 10 times, then 10 developers can do 100 times more», — Domke said on the podcast «The Silicon Valley Girl». Business Insider reports his words.
The Github CEO noted that artificial intelligence has greatly simplified learning to code and made the process easier for professionals. He added that as technology evolves, so will the capabilities of engineers.
«The most frustrating thing is when you’re learning something new, and then you get stuck at some point, and you don’t have anyone at home, among your family or friends, who can help you because they don’t have the technical knowledge. That’s what we mean when we say that AI democratizes access. Anyone who wants to learn can do it», — Domke said.
However, he noted that the notion that you can simply build a billion-dollar business with AI alone is a misconception. While some companies, especially in the technology industry, are slowing down hiring or making layoffs while relying on AI, Thomas Domke believes it’s only a matter of time before they realize that hiring more engineers has greater value.
The GitHub CEO said he has yet to see a company completely eliminate the burden on developers, even as programmers use AI to get projects done faster. Domke added that it is «the most exciting time» for developers — and that AI has ultimately changed the programming process for the better.
Thomas Domke previously explained why it’s important for companies to continue hiring junior programmers. According to him, this creates a balance between the experience of senior specialists and the fresh ideas of juniors.
