A developer under the nickname u/ai_art_is_art has created a set of free alternatives to popular Adobe programs using Claude. He wants to fully replicate the capabilities of Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and other editors in just a month. However, users are already questioning whether such programs can be trusted.
The developer posted his projects on Reddit. According to him, they are all written in Rust, and he used Anthropic's Claude Opus 5.5 to create the programs. He created the PhotoCraft image editor, the LightCraft photo editing program, the FilmCraft video editor, and other tools for working with graphics, animation, and documents.
The developer is trying to recreate the familiar interface, tool layout, hotkeys, and functions of the original programs so that designers and video editors can open the free editor and work in the usual way, without wasting time learning new software.
All projects are open source and available on GitHub . The programs also provide the ability to work with AI agents via the MCP protocol. This allows you to automate individual tasks.
However, not all Reddit users share the author's enthusiasm. Some commenters supported the attempt to create a free replacement for expensive Adobe tools. Others questioned the quality of programs created with AI in such a short time.
The PhotoCraft documentation also states that the editor is still in its early stages of development. It currently lacks some tools, plugin support, and generative AI features.
Previously, dev.ua wrote about Ukrainian developer Ivan Kutskir, who single-handedly created a free web analogue of Photoshop — Photopea.
