«Are you taking the subway — reading, napping, listening to music? Metro Timer will track your route for you. Select the departure and destination stations, click «Let’s go» — and a countdown to your station with the number of remaining stops will appear on the lock screen and in Dynamic Island. One station before the exit, the phone will vibrate: «Next is yours. Get ready to exit,» — the mechanism of the application is briefly described in the App Store.
The iOS app offers station search by name, pinned routes, and recent trips — according to the developer, the daily route can be started with two taps.
At the same time, the application works offline and does not require the Internet — it calculates the train position according to the official metro schedule.
«No servers, no advertising, no analytics. The Internet is needed for exactly one function — displaying air alerts, and it is turned off by default: you turn it on yourself,» the developer notes in the application description.
The countdown and stopwatch live in Dynamic Island (iPhone 14 Pro and later) and on the lock screen (any iPhone with iOS 16.1+). You can close the app, but the timer and notifications will continue to run.
Another important factor in the application’s operation is that routes between lines are built automatically through interchanges, and a separate notification is received when it is necessary to switch to another line.
At the same time, on the above-ground sections of the Kyiv metro, the application automatically checks the calculation with GPS and corrects deviations. «If the calculation is wrong underground, the -1/+1 buttons will shift the route by one stop, just from Dynamic Island,» the developer assures.
At the same time, geolocation is processed only on the device and only during a trip on land.
In the description of the application on the App Store, Vladyslav Domotsky reminded that «Metro-Timer» is an unofficial application, which is in no way associated with either the Kyiv Metro or the Kyiv City State Administration. In the Threads post, the developer also added that the application already had over 2,000 downloads in the first days after being uploaded to the App Store.
As dev.ua wrote, since August, a new transfer QR ticket has become available in the Kyiv Digital application and in self-service terminals.
