The first name is sonata.openai.com (date 16.01.2026) and the second is sonata.api.openai.com (date 15.01.2026).
This means that OpenAI (or its infrastructure) has started using the new subdomain «sonata» on both its main domain and the API domain, writes BleepingComputer.
The appearance of a new hostname indicates that OpenAI is testing a new service. OpenAI hosts often point to a public product page, an internal tool, or a web application.
The code name «sonata» can refer to an instrumental musical composition. However, it can also refer to, for example, car models, company names, or drug brands.
