In the first half of 2026, Ukraine registered the most new companies in the last three years. At the same time, the number of business closures also increased. However, the net growth remains positive - plus over 13,000 new companies.
This is reported by Opendatabot, based on data from the Unified State Register.
IT companies are in the black
In the first six months of the year, 19,758 new companies were opened in Ukraine, a record number in the last three years. The figure increased by 8% compared to the same period in 2025 (18,277) and exceeded the results of the first half of 2024 (18,414).
In terms of the number of new registrations, the IT sector took second place (+1,254 companies), second only to wholesale trade (+2,304).
The top five most popular areas also included real estate (+1,104), public organizations (+859), and home services (+824).
Minus in defense
In the first half of the year, 6,563 companies closed. This is 28% more than in the same period last year.
The majority of business closures (over 50%) are due to liquidation — 3,479 cases. Reorganization accounts for 21% (1,410 companies), and bankruptcy proceedings were the cause of termination in 10% of cases (651). Another 9% (574 businesses) were closed by a court decision not related to bankruptcy. In addition, 7% of companies (440) ceased operations without specifying a reason, and less than 1% (9 cases) were terminations of entities without legal entity status.
Decreases were recorded in public administration and defense (−289), education (−282), veterinary medicine (−20), water supply (−14), and creativity and art (−11).
However, thanks to the high rate of new business registrations, the overall balance remains positive. According to the results of the first half of 2026, the net increase amounted to 13,195 companies.
