Nvidia will build the first cloud-based artificial intelligence platform for industrial applications in Germany, the company's CEO Jensen Huang said today at the VivaTech conference in Paris, Reuters reports .
The technology, which will combine AI with robotics, will help automakers such as BMW and Mercedes-Benz in processes from product design modeling to logistics management.
In a series of announcements focused on Europe, Huang also announced plans to expand technology centers in 7 countries, open up the market for Nvidia computing to European companies, help developers build AI models in multiple languages, and help companies like Novo Nordisk develop drugs.
“In just two years, we will increase the amount of AI computing power in Europe by 10 times,” Huang said.
“Europe has now realized the importance of AI factories and the importance of AI infrastructure,” he said, outlining plans for 20 AI factories in Europe — large-scale infrastructure designed to develop, train and deploy AI models.
Although Europe lags behind the US and China in developing artificial intelligence technologies, the European Commission announced in March its intention to invest $20 billion in the construction of 4 artificial intelligence factories.
Nvidia is also partnering with European AI leader Mistral to create AI powered by 18,000 of Nvidia's latest chips for European businesses.
“Sovereign AI is an imperative—no company, industry, or country can outsource its intelligence,” Huang said.
