Nvidia has introduced DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation technology, which increases the number of FPS in games by 8 times. It will be exclusive to the new RTX 50 series of graphics cards
Nvidia is introducing a major update to its Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) technology. DLSS 4 will include new neural rendering capabilities that, on systems with the new RTX 50-series GPUs, can perform Multi Frame Generation, generating «up to three additional frames per traditional frame.» The technology available on previous GeForce RTX graphics cards will also receive improvements.
Nvidia says this update enables full ray-traced games at 4K 240fps. Additionally, in the update, which will run on all GeForce RTX GPUs, DLSS games with ray tracing, super-resolution, and DLAA can be upgraded to new AI transformer models that use the same technology as AI tools like ChatGPT.
The company claims that its new frame generation model is 40% faster and uses 30% less video memory than the old one.
«For games and applications, DLSS 4 with multi-frame generation, ray tracing, and ultra-high resolution features increases frame rates by up to 8x compared to brute-force rendering, and also increases frame rates by up to 1,7x after switching from single-frame generation to multi-frame generation», — Nvidia said.
Replacing the old neural networks with a new transformer model ensures that the generated pixels will have less flicker, more detail, and stability in the scene, which will provide a clearer image overall.
DLSS 4 will be available with the launch of the new RTX 50 series GPUs in late January. At launch, Multi Frame Generation will support 75 games and applications: Alan Wake 2, Cyberpunk 2077, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Star Wars Outlaws, and «over 50 games,» including the Ukrainian STALKER 2, will receive support for the new DLSS features based on transformers, which can run on all GeForce RTX hardware.
Nvidia also announced the Reflex 2 with Frame Warp technology, which it says can reduce latency by up to 75%. The company claims it reduces latency from 27ms compared to the Reflex 1 to 14ms when testing in The Finals. The company says the technology is «coming soon» to The Finals and Valorant for gamers with RTX 50 series graphics cards. It will eventually be available on previous generations of RTX.
As The Verge notes, DLSS 4 comes more than two years after Nvidia introduced DLSS 3, which introduced frame generation to improve performance in a variety of games. Nvidia then introduced DLSS 3.5 in August 2023, which introduced AI-powered ray tracing technology to improve ray tracing quality and introduce path tracing (full ray tracing) in select games. Last August, Nvidia announced that it now has over 600 games and apps that support RTX.
Recall that at the CES 2025 technology exhibition in Las Vegas, Nvidia announced a number of new products: the Cosmos WFM AI platform, the RTX 5090 graphics processor, the Mega robot fleet management manager, an artificial intelligence supercomputer, and others.
It was predicted that, taking into account the 40% tariff, Nvidia’s flagship graphics processor could cost around $2,500. However, this prediction has not yet come true — the official recommended price of the RTX 5090 was «only» $2,000.
NVIDIA and AMD are rushing to release their GPUs before Trump’s new tariff policy takes effect. With it, the RTX 5090 graphics card could cost around $2,500
