"We're discussing the idea of building an IT village in the office": Ukrainian IT professionals in Threads fantasize about an IT community outside the city
Ukrainian IT professionals in Threads are actively discussing the idea of creating an IT village — an autonomous community with technology, eco-products, and self-government, where you could move to live after years of working in the industry.
Ukrainian IT professionals in Threads are actively discussing the idea of creating an IT village — an autonomous community with technology, eco-products, and self-government, where you could move to live after years of working in the industry.
The initiator of the discussion was Anastasia Maliley (@kyivlianka), who wrote that the idea arose during office conversations: «We are discussing in the office the idea of building an IT village and moving people there to live. Technology plus ecological products. And self-government itself. A kind of ideal old age for IT professionals.» The post quickly gathered dozens of comments, in which participants began to supplement the concept with their own scenarios.
Some of the reactions were emotional and recognizable to the IT community. Oleksiy («alex_blinker») wrote: «This idea occurs to almost everyone who, after 10 years in IT, got bored and wants to go to the village.» Oleksandr Pasika («oleksandr__paseka») supported the idea from a practical point of view: «I want 1-2 horses for riding and an orchard. It would be ideal to make homemade wine.»
A separate discussion block touched on digital detox. User (@olly_holly97) joked: «Can I make it so that no one can connect there, please? So that I don’t get those damn messages in Teams and Slack?»
Some tried to translate their imagination into concrete steps. A user with the nickname @parisinpocket ironically but in detail described a possible scenario: «Now there are a lot of villages with good land that are 100 or 99% abandoned. Buy houses, hold local elections, establish government bodies, submit documents for self-government.» Despite the humorous tone, the comment showed that some participants were thinking about an IT village as a real prospect.
Those who already live outside the city also joined the discussion. Olena Yastrzhembska @yastrzhembska wrote: «My husband is an IT specialist, I am not. We are finishing renovating a house in the village, an hour and a half from Kyiv by car. I can advise on house renovation and creating and maintaining a garden.» Her comment was actually a response to the author’s query about the «unique skills» needed for such a community.
Ideas for technocommunities outside megacities regularly emerge in the global IT environment after the mass transition to remote work. In Ukrainian realities, such discussions combine fatigue from the urban rhythm, a desire for autonomy, and an interest in self-governing communities capable of combining work, life, and the local economy.
Previously, dev.ua wrote about how the developers of the Ukrainian game Back to Hearth, about restoring a village, talked about the sales of the project three months after its release and named their main mistakes.
«eStukach». Threads users discuss the possibility of introducing a new service to combat «parking heroes». The head of the Ministry of Digital Affairs jokingly suggested the name of the service and ran into a barrage of criticism
«It reminds me of football in the yard. When the ball hits the player, he starts running towards the opponent’s goal, not thinking about passes or other players.» Fedorov at Threads told what they think about «E-Balls»
