The defense technology sector in Ukraine continues to demonstrate rapid growth in 2026. Currently, the share of vacancies in this industry has reached a record 17% of all offers on the labor market, and the total number of published positions in the first half of the year has already exceeded the indicators of the entire last year.

Currently, the share of vacancies in this industry has reached a record 17% of all offers on the labor market, and the total number of published positions in the first half of the year has already exceeded the indicators of the entire last year.
This is evidenced by the results of a study of the IT labor market and hiring trends in the defense sector, conducted by the DOU publication.
In the first six months of 2026, employers opened 6,523 new vacancies in the field of military technology, while for the whole of 2025 this figure was 5,915 positions. The most productive for hiring was June, when companies published 1,285 vacancies. In total, defense startups and enterprises posted 3,518 job offers in the second quarter, which is 14,6% higher than the previous quarter and almost equal to the indicators of the entire second half of last year.
In parallel with the increase in offers, job seekers have also become more active. In May, a historical maximum of interest was recorded — 9,303 responses from candidates, which is almost three times more than in May last year, when 3,534 responses were recorded. The average number of responses per vacancy in the second quarter reached 10.2. The highest peak of competition fell in April with an indicator of 11.5 responses per advertisement, but in June, against the background of an increase in offers from employers, this figure was adjusted to 8.1.
The defense industry is most often looking for specialists in the areas of Hardware, QA, Embedded, and Project Manager. Among developers, C++ and Python specialists are in the greatest demand. At the same time, the highest competition is observed among project managers, testers, and DevOps engineers.
However, the Hardware and Embedded areas remain in short supply — it is here that companies find it most difficult to close positions. There is also a clear trend in the market towards experienced professionals, while there are fewer and fewer offers for beginners.
Previous research indicated that in the first half of 2026, the Ukrainian IT labor market showed a moderate recovery — the total number of vacancies increased by 7% compared to the second half of last year. However, a restructuring is taking place within the industry: classic web and mobile development are losing ground, giving way to defense technologies, hardware, and artificial intelligence.
