Amazon Web Services (AWS) and OpenAI announced a multi-year strategic partnership in which AWS will provide its infrastructure to launch and scale OpenAI's core artificial intelligence workflows, starting now.
Under the $38 billion deal, OpenAI will gain access to AWS computing power for the next seven years.
Amazon says the infrastructure it is building for OpenAI is optimized for maximum efficiency and performance in AI processing. In particular, AWS will provide NVIDIA GB200 and GB300 GPUs.
“Expanding the frontiers of AI requires powerful and reliable computing resources. Our partnership with AWS strengthens a broad computing ecosystem that will power a new era and make cutting-edge AI technologies accessible to everyone,” said Sam Altman, co-founder and CEO of OpenAI.
Until this year, OpenAI had an exclusive cloud deal with Microsoft , which invested a total of $13 billion in the company. Last week, Microsoft's preferential status ended, allowing OpenAI to collaborate with other hyperscalers.
“As OpenAI continues to push the boundaries of what is possible, AWS’s best-in-class infrastructure will be the foundation for realizing their AI ambitions,” said Matt Garman, CEO of AWS.
