OpenAI has started selling additional credits to users for its Sora AI video generation tool. An additional 10 generations are being sold for $4 through Apple’s App Store.
The company currently limits free generations to 30 per day, but that number will likely decrease as OpenAI starts monetizing its product, Engadget reports.
«Eventually, we will have to reduce the number of free spawns to accommodate growth (otherwise we won’t have enough GPUs!), but we will be transparent when that happens,» said Bill Peebles, who leads Sora at OpenAI.
He also noted that OpenAI plans to monetize its activities by giving organizations the opportunity to license their copyrighted materials: illustrations, characters, or images.
«We envision a world in which rights holders have the ability to charge extra for cameos of beloved characters and people», he wrote.
OpenAI has previously strengthened protections for creators and public figures in Sora, requiring that the voices and images of celebrities be used only with their explicit consent. The company has promised to respond quickly to complaints and is giving authorized representatives tools to block unauthorized impersonations.
