OpenAI currently offers several models, including GPT-4o, GPT-4o with scheduled tasks, o1, o3-mini, and o3-mini-high. This variety can be confusing. That’s why OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently announced that ChatGPT will simplify the names of its models and release versions such as GPT-4.5, GPT-5, and so on.
Today, some users noticed an ad in the ChatGPT Android app: “Try the research version of GPT-4.5 — Pro users now have access to our latest, greatest model,” writes Bleeping Computer.
Clicking on the notification doesn't do anything yet, but it seems to confirm that GPT-4.5 is close to release and may soon be available to more users, namely Pro subscribers.
In addition to the GPT-4.5 references, AI researcher Tibor Blaho spotted a few additional experiments in the ChatGPT web interface. For example, OpenAI plans to move features like deep search, canvas, and image-based interaction to a file selector, which will allow users to easily select a model and switch between features.
Additionally, if "deep research" mode is enabled, the ChatGPT input field now reads: "I can research in the background to provide a detailed report. For best results, please include: any relevant sources, desired areas of focus, files related to your research, and "provide as much detail as possible for best results."
It's unclear when the GPT-4.5 model and other improvements will be available beyond the ChatGPT Pro subscription. OpenAI is expected to share more details soon.
Recall that OpenAI has given Plus, Team, Edu, and Enterprise users access to Deep Research . Previously, this feature was only available to Pro users for $200 per month.
