One of Apple’s top AI developers, Ruoming Pang, is moving to Meta Platforms.
Bloomberg writes that Meta offered Pang a package worth tens of millions of dollars per year.
Ruoming Pang led the Apple Foundation Models team. Meta confirmed on Monday that it was hiring Pang.
At Apple, Pang led a team of about 100 people responsible for the company’s large language models that underpin Apple Intelligence and other AI features. In June, Apple announced that these models would be open to third-party developers for the first time, enabling the creation of a range of new apps for iPhone and iPad.
In turn, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg does not skimp on the highest-paid artificial intelligence specialists.
As we wrote, Meta’s aggressive policy of luring personnel from its competitors began to bear fruit, as a result of which OpenAI lost yet another artificial intelligence specialist .
It seems Zuckerberg was just getting started when he lured Scale AI founder Alexander Wang to Meta. He then went on to hire Daniel Gross, CEO of Ilya Sutzkever’s startup Safe Superintelligence (SSI), and former GitHub CEO Nat Friedman.
Sam Altman openly complained about Meta for poaching employees.
