In Kyiv and the region, Dnipro, Odessa, Mykolaiv - a significant surge in fuel consumption. What do market operators say about this and should we prepare for restrictions?
While Ukraine is recovering from enemy attacks, and millions of consumers do not have electricity in their homes, for most of them the source of light and heat are generators that run on gasoline or diesel fuel. In some regions, queues of dozens of cars are forming at gas stations. This is reminiscent of the situation in 2022, when fuel was needed so much that a shortage arose and sales limits were introduced. dev.ua decided to figure out what is happening on the market now, and what to prepare for.

According to the company’s press service, demand has now increased significantly in Kyiv and Kyiv region, as well as in Dnipro, Odessa, and Mykolaiv due to the blackout. «All types of fuel are growing, except for SPBT, and especially Arctic diesel. We are recording more growth in the B2B segment, since businesses need generators in order not to stop working. We are recording lower demand for individuals compared to 2022, since people have more charging stations,» the company noted.
However, there is no shortage of fuel, OKKO assured. «There are no problems with gasoline and regular diesel. There are spot difficulties exclusively with Arctic diesel. Since no one in the market counted on such a cold snap in all regions and for so long, now we have to „pull out“ the Arctic batches available on the market in order to promptly deliver them here. Therefore, spot problems may arise precisely due to the increase in the logistics burden and difficult weather conditions for delivery against the background of very high sales. But this is definitely not a mass situation, so we do not plan to introduce any limits,» the gas station said in a statement.
Regarding the delivery of fuel to filling stations, the company’s existing fleet of fuel trucks is sufficient, but, of course, due to the current situation, the transport operates with very high productivity.
Regarding the delivery of fuel to business consumers, they say the following: «We have 11 specially equipped small fuel trucks that provide the service of delivering batches of 400 liters of fuel in Kyiv and the western region. Such a service is definitely not our business focus, but rather an additional convenience for our customers. There are already separate companies on the market that specialize in fuel delivery, so these questions should be directed to them.»
dev.ua sent requests to five key market players — OKKO, WOG, KLO, UPG and BRSM. However, within a few days, only OKKO provided an answer. We will add the remaining positions as soon as we receive answers.
