ADVIN GLOBAL, which developed and patented the VRNOW VR simulator for the rehabilitation of military and civilians suffering from phantom pain and musculoskeletal problems, has introduced its product to a number of Ukrainian medical institutions and is preparing to scale up to the European market.

ADVIN GLOBAL claims that they are the first Ukrainian IT company that not only adapted existing technologies, but also «developed a completely new solution from scratch» and went through the full cycle from concept to certified VRNOW medical product and obtaining a patent.

«We saw that Ukraine has every opportunity to become not only a consumer, but also a developer of world-class medical technologies. Our experience has proven that Ukrainian specialists are capable of creating innovative products that meet international standards,» said Artem Chyhyrynsky, CEO of ADVIN GLOBAL, during his speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos 2025.

In 2024, the company received Ukrainian patent No. 158352 for its VR technology for the rehabilitation of patients with phantom pain. This is one of the first IP cases for the MedTech product market in Ukraine. The patent protects a unique algorithm for patient interaction with the virtual environment, which allows for accurate reproduction of the movements of the missing limb based on signals from the preserved muscles. This technology uses the principles of neuroplasticity to reprogram the brain and reduce phantom pain, as well as to improve control over prostheses.

«Our patent is not just legal protection of an idea, it is recognition of the uniqueness and innovation of our approach. This is the first case in Ukraine when an IT company received a patent for VR technology for medical rehabilitation, which opens the door for us to international markets,» notes Valeriy Soroka, Product Manager.

Over the past six months, the VRNOW simulator has been implemented in seven leading medical institutions in Ukraine, including hospitals that accept military personnel and children’s hospitals, including «Okhmatdyt». More than 500 patients have completed a rehabilitation course using this VR simulator. ADVIN GLOBAL claims that more than 40 leading medical centers in the country, including «Unbroken», have already announced their intention to use this simulator in daily rehabilitation.

VRNOW works on the principles of neuroplasticity — the brain’s ability to change and create new connections. When a person in VR sees their virtual limb and can «control» it, the brain begins to react as if this body part was actually present. This allows for the reduction of phantom pain, restoration of motor function, reduction of anxiety levels and acceleration of the return to active life.

«I had very severe phantom pain, I couldn’t sleep or eat. If the hospital had had something like this before, it would have been much easier, because it really helps with phantom pain,» shares Vladislav, a serviceman who underwent rehabilitation using VRNOW.

ADVIN GLOBAL has already started the process of VRNOW certification according to European standards for entering the EU market. According to experts, the European rehabilitation technology market is growing, and VR solutions in this context are potentially effective, but still poorly developed on the market. The company believes that this gives a Ukrainian-made product a chance to take a high position in the Medtech market.
