On October 13, 2025, the Uman City District Court of Cherkasy Oblast allowed police temporary access to bank accounts related to fraud in the popular online game Counter-Strike 2.
According to the court ruling, a resident of Uman contacted the police after his son fell victim to a scammer. While playing CS2, the boy met a user who offered to «buy virtual gloves.» Later, he also posed as a Steam support representative on Discord.
Under the pretext of identity verification, the fraudster obtained a photo of the guy’s passport (ID card and old model) and convinced him to transfer UAH 7,855 to bank cards opened in one of the Ukrainian banks. After that, the connection with the pseudo-seller disappeared.
The police opened criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — «Fraud». For the investigation, the court gave investigators access to the data of the bank accounts to which the funds were transferred in order to identify the cardholders and the movement of money.
Recently, Ukrainian developers created a browser extension Karmageddon, which works on the web version of the FACEIT platform and allows you to evaluate the behavior of teammates in Counter-Strike 2 after each match. This allows you to avoid toxic players in the future.
