Preply has opened its first intake for the AI Talent Accelerator, a six-month paid internship for students, graduates, and early-career developers. The first group will be limited to five participants. The best of them may be offered Junior Software Engineer positions by the company upon completion of the program.
Interns will participate in stand-ups, code reviews, and work with the code used in the product. Starting from the second week, participants will have to work with the real Preply product — fixing bugs and adding small features. Later, each will receive their own AI project, the result of which will be presented to the company's managers and CTO at the end of the program.
In weeks 6–8, each participant, together with their mentor, must define their own AI project and prepare a short technical specification for it. They will then need to develop, test, and improve it together with their mentor.
And in the middle of the program, there is an assessment of the results with self-assessment and feedback from the manager and colleagues. At the final stage, the intern must also assess the specific impact of their project on the business and present the results to Preply managers and the CTO.
The program is open to senior and master's students in computer science, mathematics, physics, and related fields, recent graduates, and professionals with up to two years of work experience.
Candidates are expected to have basic programming skills in Python, Java, Go, or JavaScript and practical experience with LLM and AI agents. Own projects and participation in olympiads and hackathons will also be an advantage.
The program is available to candidates based in Ukraine. Preply expects full-time employment — 40 hours per week — but allows students to reduce it to 28 hours. The program page does not specify the exact amount of compensation, but calls it competitive for a paid engineering internship.
The selection process consists of a short application, a questionnaire, a conversation with a Talent Acquisition Partner, a technical session, and an interview with a potential mentor. During the live coding, the candidate will be given a practical task during which they can use any AI tools of their choice. The selection process will be gradual, so Preply warns that those who apply early will go through the next stages faster.
Applications are accepted from September 15 to October 2, the company plans to identify all five participants on October 14, and the program is scheduled to start on October 19.
Previously, dev.ua wrote that Preply planned to hire about 100 engineers. The company's CTO Dmitry Voloshyn also spoke about the problems with hiring AI specialists. According to him, most of the specialists working in this area at Preply grew up within the company.
