Ukrainian-founded online education platform Preply is now valued at $1.2 billion after raising $150 million in Series D investment. The company has already been backed by funds such as Horizon Capital, Hoxton Ventures, Owl Ventures, and Techstars Berlin.
Investment fund WestCap became the leader of the Series D round, bringing total investments in Preply to over $299 million, Bloomberg writes .
Preply was founded in 2012 by Ukrainians Kyrylo Bigay, Serhiy Lukyanov, and Dmytro Voloshyn. The company uses AI to connect over 100,000 teachers and students from 180 countries. Of Preply's 750 employees, approximately 150 work in the Kyiv office.
CEO Kyrylo Bigay noted that since the end of 2024, the project has achieved operating profitability in terms of EBITDA.
With the new funding, Preply joins a growing cohort of unicorns with Ukrainian roots, including Fintech-IT Group , which developed the mono ecosystem of products, and Grammarly .
Preply plans to use the raised funds to expand its technical department, including offices in New York and London, as well as to develop personalized artificial intelligence tools. According to Bigay, these features will help students take notes, track progress, and identify strengths and weaknesses. He added that such features are currently available for learning English and Spanish, but the company's goal is to implement them for all languages represented on the platform.
Ukrainian EdTech company Preply will attract another $10 million in investments. They will be directed towards integrating AI into the educational platform
