Haiqu startup and the Faculty of Applied Sciences of UCU have opened registration for the third batch of the Quantum Machine Learning Summer School. How to participate

The Faculty of Applied Sciences of the Ukrainian Catholic University and quantum startup Haiqu have opened enrollment for the annual Quantum Machine Learning School. Who can join the training?

The summer school will be held from July 28 to August 2 at the UCU campus in Lviv. It brings together 3rd-4th year students and graduates of physics and mathematics, engineering, and computer science majors to lay the foundation for understanding quantum computing and encourage development in this domain.

The press release notes that the training will include a theoretical and practical part, where students will be able to practice developing algorithms based on Qiskit and Pennylane. Previous knowledge of quantum mechanics or quantum computing is not required — the program is suitable for beginners for intensive immersion.

The lecturers and mentors of the summer school are researchers and quantum engineers from Ukraine, the USA, and Europe, including Mykola Maksymenko, CTO and co-founder of the Haiqu startup, director of the Master’s Program in Technology Management at the UCU Business School.

The number of places is limited, so enrollment will be on a competitive basis. It is important for participants to have a solid foundation in linear algebra, probability theory, statistics, machine learning, and Python programming. The language of instruction is English .

Participation in the summer school involves a registration fee, but the registration fee for studies and accommodation on the UCU campus can be covered by scholarships:

  • The top 10 applicants will receive scholarships from Haiqu and SoftServe. Preference will be given to the most motivated applicants, as well as veterans.
  • 5 scholarships from Infinity Technologies will support students from frontline cities of Ukraine.

«Two topics that have already influenced my work and PhD thesis are Quantum Neural Networks (QNN) and Quantum Approximate Optimization Algorithm (QAOA). Thanks to the school, I not only learned how to implement quantum neural networks on real quantum computers, but also saw their potential in combination with the quantum internet. I am currently working on a project that uses quantum algorithms to analyze drone flight trajectories and interception strategies,» noted Mykhailo Vernik, a student of previous intakes.

Applicants for scholarship support must indicate this in the registration form, as well as provide recommendations from a scientific supervisor.

  • Early bird registration fee (until June 25) — 10,000 UAH.
  • Regular registration fee (until July 17) — 20,000 UAH.

Upon completion of the course, students receive 3-credit certificates from the Ukrainian Catholic University. Registration is available at the link .

Recall that in May of this year, the Google Startup Fund in Ukraine named 30 startups that will receive up to $100,000 in funding. The list includes teams that create products related to artificial intelligence, quantum computing, education, healthcare, and others.
