«Unfortunately, for some colleagues in the parliamentary hall, politics turned out to be more important than economics,» Hetmantsev commented on the situation.
He added that now the bill may be considered at the next session of the Verkhovna Rada, which will be held on September 2.
«We must establish civilized, transparent and understandable rules of the game for market participants. Let me remind you that the legalization of crypto can potentially bring billions to the state budget,» the People’s Deputy emphasized.
He referred to a study by Global Ledger, previously mentioned by the head of the Ministry of Digital Affairs, Mykhailo Fedorov. It states that if cryptocurrencies were legalized in Ukraine earlier, it could bring UAH 8.34 billion in taxes from crypto exchanges registered in Ukraine and up to UAH 6.53 billion from personal income taxation.
Recall that in May, the Ukrainian parliament postponed consideration of a key bill on the legalization of virtual assets and taxation of cryptocurrencies, despite the fact that it was supported by the relevant committee and expected by the IMF. The reason was an unexpected initiative from regulators and a decision made at the level of the Parliament.
