Razer introduces AI coach Ava for esports athletes and casual gamers

Gaming gadget maker Razer unveiled Project Ava, an AI copilot at CES 2025, to help gamers become better at games. It takes and analyzes thousands of screenshots of gameplay and settings (with permission), and provides real-time feedback.
«By analyzing millions of simulations in seconds, I will always have the answer to your most complex gaming challenges», — claims Razer’s marketing video.
Project Ava, according to Razer, can act as «the ultimate AI esports coach» and «an omniscient AI gaming guide.» Essentially, it’s an AI assistant that monitors gameplay and provides real-time voice prompts.
A journalist from The Verge who attended the Ava presentation noted that during a boss fight in the game Black Myth: Wukong, Razer’s AI assistant gave a lot of advice, such as:
«Prepare to dodge when his blade spins or glows an orange hue.»
«Keep a close eye on his health. Once you shave off 10-20 percent, get your fingers ready for a dodge.»
«He will disappear…»
«If he grabs you, it will feel good!»
«Ava sounded very annoying, interrupting the game audio to tell the player what to do. I assume you can only summon Ava when you need help, but it still seems a bit strange for Razer, a company that has long been associated with elite gamers,» the journalist noted.
He also added that the origin of Ava’s training data, which was apparently trained on instructions from gaming sites, likely without their permission, also raises questions.
According to Razer, the bot offers «expert AI advice that draws on a rich community of expertise and knowledge, including input from leading esports coaches and players.»
This allows gamers to fully immerse themselves in the game without looking away. Gamers can summon Ava during a short break, listen to her on a headset while playing, or simply chat with her.
For example, in League of Legends, AI can understand what is best for a player to do, what spells and items to equip, based on advanced situational awareness of the game, API calls, hints, and even potentially historical data on the results of matches played by esports teams.
Ava also knows where enemy players are by analyzing screenshots of the in-game minimap. However, her responses were delayed by several seconds in the prototype shown, which ran on a pair of Nvidia RTX 4090 laptop local GPUs using Meta’s Llama 3.2 LLM.
In addition to gameplay coaching, Ava also acts as a gaming performance optimizer, with features including the ability to tweak hardware settings with the click of a button to increase frame rates, reduce loading times, check for software updates, and ensure your PC build is efficient.
Razer did not specify when Project Ava will be available to the general public, but has opened registration for the beta.
Як нейромережі бачать вільну та незалежну Україну? Тест dev.ua
