Military recruiting: Who is most often sought after for the Defense Forces and what vacancies are candidates most willing to respond to: study

Which military specialists were most sought after in 2024?

During 2024, on the Work.ua.zcu website, Ukrainians most often searched for vacancies for riflemen, machine gunners, mortarmen, drivers, grenade launchers, EW and UAV operators.

This is evidenced by Work.ua data and research results.

In November of this year, the number of departments that posted vacancies reached 750. This is 5% more compared to October. The divisions offered more than 7,580 vacancies. This is 8% more than the previous month.

Currently, more than 5,220 vacancies with the general request «military serviceman» are posted on the website. More than 960 vacancies with the request «driver», 935 vacancies with the request «gunner», 803 vacancies with the request «machine gunner», 554 vacancies — «machine gunner» and «grenade launcher», 448 vacancies — «UAV operator».

The five categories in which divisions posted vacancies most often were:

«Protection, security»
«Transport, auto business»
«Medicine, pharmaceuticals»
«Telecommunications and communication»
«Working specialties, production».

Vacancies are offered by the Recruiting Center of the Ukrainian Army, the State Border Service of Ukraine, the Recruiting Center of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the 1st Recruiting Center of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the 12th Special Forces Brigade of the Azov State Military University, the Unified Recruiting Center of the Armed Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the 24th OMBr named after King Danylo and other military units.

In November, 44% of responses to vacancies in the Defense Forces were sent by women, 56% by men. The share of women has increased somewhat. The number of responses to Defense Force jobs fell by 9% after rising in October. Searchers are most willing to respond to vacancies in the categories «Sales, purchase», «Marketing, advertising, PR», «Jurisprudence»

In total, employers posted 109,467 job offers on Work.ua in November. This is 7% less than in October.

This trend repeats the scenario of 2021, when more than 109,000 vacancies were posted in the last month of autumn. So the situation on the labor market corresponds to seasonal trends. Under such a scenario, the number of vacancies will decrease in the next few months.

The only category where offers increased was «Protection, security». This also affected the positions that became more in demand in November: policeman, drone operator, unit commander, platoon service number, signalman, mortarman.

Another exception to the general downward trend is the increase in job vacancies where companies are willing to give preference to veterans. This is a new functionality on the Work.ua website, which employers continue to familiarize themselves with. Therefore, there were only 990 such vacancies in October, and already 2,920 in November. We are sure that there will be more in the future.
