The GrapheneOS team announced this in a series of posts on the X social network (Twitter). According to the creators of the mobile OS, Revolut support is spreading false information about the security and compatibility of their platform in order to justify the blocking.
«Revolut shows incredible negligence when it comes to security. It uses a number of third-party, closed-source libraries that have privacy, security, and compatibility issues. Some of these libraries are supposedly designed to provide security, but in reality create serious security vulnerabilities,» GrapheneOS claims.
GrapheneOS emphasizes that their system provides a higher level of security than most standard Android devices. At the same time, the developers drew attention to the fact that the Revolut app itself still supports outdated versions of Android (starting with Android 9), which have not received security updates for over eight years.
«GrapheneOS meets all defined security standards. The system significantly exceeds in terms of privacy and protection everything they allow,» the project team said.
According to GrapheneOS, Revolut could have used the Hardware Attestation API to verify device authenticity. The company had been given a compatibility guide long before the lockdown.
The project team already created a workaround for users in January 2025, but Revolut continues to try to block access completely. Currently, users are again reporting difficulties when authorizing the application, although the service is still working stably for accounts that are already logged in.
GrapheneOS is an open-source operating system based on Android, focused on privacy and cybersecurity, and is popular among security professionals and IT professionals.
