The company showed off Cube at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) today. It will be available later this week, and includes its first tool: mesh generation, TechCrunch reports .
Cube's 3D mesh generation feature, currently in beta, allows creators to create "meshes," or 3D representations of objects, with a single prompt. For example, "generate an orange race car with black stripes." Creators can further customize the game object in Roblox Studio.
The open source version of Cube 3D allows anyone to customize, create plugins, or train the model with their own datasets to suit their needs.
Roblox also announced three additional AI tools — text generation, text-to-speech, and speech-to-text — that will be rolling out in the coming months.
The text generation tool allows developers to add text-based AI features to their games. This includes giving players the ability to have conversations with interactive non-player characters (NPCs).
Instead, text-to-speech allows developers to add narration, make NPCs speak, or include voiceovers in their games. Digitization allows players to use voice commands, such as telling characters to move forward.
Other future plans for the company include launching mesh generation for more “complex” objects and scene creation, Roblox explains. The scene creation tool, for example, will allow creators to have the AI create a complete forest scene and change the green leaves on the trees to fall colors to show the changing seasons.
Roblox believes Cube will help creators work faster, allowing independent developers to take on larger projects. The company has already released several AI tools, including for texture generation and avatar creation.
