The 16th package of EU sanctions includes gamepads because Russian pilots use them to control drones
The European Council has approved the sixteenth package of sanctions against Russia over its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The new package includes restrictions on the shadow fleet of Russian tankers and a ban on the sale of game controllers to the Russian Federation.
The European Council has approved the sixteenth package of sanctions against Russia over its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The new package includes restrictions on the shadow fleet of Russian tankers and a ban on the sale of game controllers to the Russian Federation.
The EU has approved a package of 83 sanctions lists, consisting of 48 individuals and 35 organizations responsible for actions that undermine or threaten the territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence of Ukraine.
«For three years now, Russia has been bombing Ukraine non-stop, trying to steal land that doesn’t belong to it. This new round of sanctions is not only aimed at Russia’s shadow fleet, but also at those who support the operation of dangerous oil tankers, game controllers used to pilot drones, banks that circumvent our sanctions, and propaganda media that spread lies,» said Kaia Kallas, former Prime Minister of Estonia and now the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
She added that «there is no doubt about who the aggressor is,» and that each package of sanctions deprives Moscow of the funds to wage war.
The sanctions also apply to eight Russian media outlets, including Lenta.ru and the Zvezda TV channel, which will lose their broadcasting licenses in the EU. It is noted that these media outlets «played a significant role in the deployment and support of Russia’s aggressive war against Ukraine, as well as in the destabilization of its neighboring countries and the EU.»
