Divorce can now be filed online at Diya — without queues and the DRACS department
The Ministry of Digital Affairs has launched the option to dissolve a marriage completely online in the «Diia» application. Previously, this required visiting the DRACS department in person at least twice and submitting paper documents — now, according to the developers, the entire process can be completed in a few steps on a smartphone.
The Ministry of Digital Affairs has launched the option to dissolve a marriage completely online in the «Diia» application. Previously, this required visiting the DRACS department in person at least twice and submitting paper documents — now, according to the developers, the entire process can be completed in a few steps on a smartphone.
Who is the service available to?
Online divorce in Diia is suitable for couples who have jointly and voluntarily decided to end their marriage. There are two important exceptions for which the online format does not work:
if the spouses have minor children together — the divorce, as before, takes place through the court;
Those who do not use the Diia can still apply in person at the DRACS department.
How it works
The process is built on mutual confirmation of both parties:
One of the spouses forms an application in the Diia application.
The second confirms the statement in its Diia application.
The action automatically checks the information in the digital DRACS.
Without the consent of both parties, it will not be possible to file for divorce — this is a fundamental condition of the service.
After submitting the application, the marriage will be dissolved one month later. If during this time one of the spouses changes their mind, the application can be withdrawn — but no later than 4 hours before the video conference.
The Ministry of Digital Affairs published step-by-step instructions in a video.
Who developed the service?
The Ministry of Digital Affairs worked on the service together with the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, the State Enterprise «National Information Systems», the Digital Central Administrative Service of Ukraine, the State Migration Service, and JSC «Ukrposhta» — with the support of the Swiss-Ukrainian program EGAP, implemented by the Eastern Europe Foundation.
«The state is there even in difficult life decisions. And where there used to be visits to institutions, queues, and paperwork, now there are a few steps in a smartphone,» the Ministry of Digital Affairs commented on the launch of the service.
